Manipuri Singing Bowl
SOLD
Antique Tibetan Manipuri Singing Bowl. C & G Notes (Root & Throat Chakras)
Weight 1 lb 13 oz (820g). 21 x 7 cm (approx. 8 ¼ x 2 ¾ inches)
An antique Tibetan Singing Bowl with the classic shallow or low Manipuri profile with fine walls that gently splay towards the rim. This fairly large Manipuri bowl has been well used over the years. There are some original hammer markings remaining low down on the exterior walls, but the inside has been worn smooth and any decorative elements have all but disappeared. Regular cleaning probably accounts for its smooth finish and rather nice golden colour.
The simplicity of form is offset by a complexity of sound. It has a lovely low third octave C fundamental, and an excellent and powerful forth octave G note with interesting and variable harmonics when played around the rim. This bowl also has some fountain ability. A double-ended teak and suede striker/ringer is included in the price.
