Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl. Bb3 & E5 Notes (Crown & Solar Plexus Chakra)
Weight lb 10 oz (734g). 20 x 7 cm (approx. 8 x 2 ¾ inches)
This is a medium-large antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with an excellent third octave Bb voice that is close to concert pitch when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. If played with a wooden ringer the rim note is a good fifth octave E. This bowl also has some talking ability if played with a little water inside.
This is a well-made older bowl. The walls are of an even thickness and it has a nicely grooved lip. There are six decorative incised lines forming a collar below the outer rim, but the circles at its centre, if any, have been worn away with the passage of time. The condition of this bowl is very good, and it is virtually free of stains and blemishes.
A lovely old singing bowl that is nicely balanced and feels smooth and sensual to the touch!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
