Medium Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – G4/G#4 (405 Hz)

SOLD

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – G4/G#4 (Throat Chakra)
Weight 935g (2 lb 1 oz)   6 ¼ x 3 ¼ inches (16 x 8 cm)

This is a superb example of a medium size antique Lingam Singing Bowl with the Thadobati form.  It’s a thick bowl with high-sided straight walls, a grooved lip and flat bottom.  It looks a little like a very old Thadobati until one peers inside and sees the beautiful pointed lingam at its centre, or flips it over and discovers its deep navel.

This lovely old bowl has bags of character and the look and feel of antiquity.  The outer wall, in particular, has lots of surface interest ranging from smooth to hammered, with a slight unevenness due to the difficulty forging something so thick and deep.  Detail extends to concentric circles around the lingam, and a pair of fine dot lines just below the outer rim.

The deep shape of this bowl lends it something of a pleasing bell-like quality (to my ear) when struck. The note is almost midway between a G4 and G#4 with a frequency of 405 Hz.  The voice is the same if played around the rim.  It’s a responsive bowl and easy to play, and it sits very comfortably on the palm of the hand.  I like it a lot!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
