Antique Thadobati Singing & Talking Bowl. Eb4 Note (Solar Plexus Chakra)
Weight 1 lb 14 oz. (849g). Size 17 x 8.5 cm (approx. 6¾ x 3¼ inches)
This is a nicely proportioned medium size antique Thadobati Singing and Talking Bowl dating from the 19th century. It has the typical Thadobati form with its high-sided walls that gently curve in towards a flat bottom. There is a decorative band of dots just below the outer rim, and there is evidence that the lip was once grooved, but this is an old bowl and any other decorative features it may have possessed have been worn away with the passage of time. This bowl is structurally sound, and has an antique bronze colour with the patina of age.
The fundamental note is a good middle octave Eb with a frequency of 318Hz. The note is the same whether struck with a heavy padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. And when half-filled with water this bowl has a very good talking voice when rocked back and forth while striking or playing. A heavy suede ringer is included in the price.
Listen: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede then wooden ringer)
