Antique Remuna Singing Bowl. Notes F#2, C#4 & 5, A5 and More
Weight 666 grams (1 lb x 7 ½ oz). Size 21 x 9.5 cm (8 ¼ x 3 ¾ inches)
This is a remarkable multi-harmonic antique singing bowl by any reckoning, with 4 stunning voices across 3 octaves, and possibly the thinnest hand-forged walls I have come across. Its shape is similar to that of a Jambati, but its vibrant voices are unmistakable those of the rarer Remuna.
The fundamental struck note is a beautiful low second octave F# (93Hz). This is surprising for a bowl of this size as low frequency notes are associated with the largest of bowls. The played rim note is a forth octave C# (280Hz) that can develop into a fifth octave C# (547Hz) with a suede ringer, while a wooden ringer will produce a 5thoctave A (877Hz).
This bowl has a very graceful form. Its thin wall accounts for its modest weight, and it is a delight to hold and play for an extended period without tiring.
The structural condition of this singing bowl is excellent, and it is clean and free of stains and blemishes.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a small padded striker, and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
