This antique Naga or pedestal bowl is distinguished by its exceptional musicality. It has one of the most fantastic voices we have come across in a Naga bowl. When struck with a padded mallet it sings a beautiful low 2nd or 3rd octave B note, usually the latter but sometimes switching from one to the other. The rim note is equally special…building from a low second octave B flat to a truly astonishing and high 5th octave D with a simply massive sustain! This truly exceptional bowl is also extremely responsive and easy to play.
Weighing 963 grams this is a heavy Naga bowl. It is in good condition, and has a lovely shape, a strong pedestal, and some finely engraved decorative banding just below the rim. It also benefits from an excellent and long punched-dot inscription with a large fish at the beginning and end. Very nice!
