Rare 18th Century Lingam Singing & Talking Bowl – Perfect Pitch & Inscription

SOLD

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes Eb3 & Bb4 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)

Weight: 663 grams (1 lb 7 oz).  Size: 18 x 9 cm ( 7 x 3 ½ inches)

This rare fine-walled Lingam Singing and Talking Bowl is thought to date from the 18th Century.  It has a near Perfect Pitch third octave Eb3 (158Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet, and a Perfect Pitch middle octave Bb4 (466Hz) when played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer.

It also has an excellent talking voice if struck or played and rocked back and forth with a little water inside.  It also has some vibrant fountain ability.

This bowl also benefits from an inscription; a sure sign of the high esteem in which it was held by a former keeper.

This bowl is very old and has been handled and washed countless times, to the point where its exterior wall has been worn down smooth and most of its external decorations worn away, including ritual gashes and much of the inscription.  At its centre there is a nice lingam surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, with a navel or yoni underneath.

It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free, with an attractive aged patina and the look and feel of great antiquity.

A ringer is included in the price.
