Small Lingam Singing Bowl. Note Bb4 (Crown Chakra)

Weight 607 grams (1 lb 5 oz).  13.5 x 7 cm (5 ¼ x 2 ¾ inches)

This is a very small and pretty antique Lingam Singing Bowl with a middle Bb4 (465Hz) fundamental that is close to perfect pitch when struck, and a powerful sixth octave E6 (1309Hz) harmonic when played around the rim with a wooden ringer.

It is very heavy for its size and has a lovely curved wall and a sheered lip.  There is an unusual button lingam at its centre surrounded and defined by circles, and a neat navel or yoni underneath.

It is structurally sound and free of stains.  Underneath, close to the navel, a cluster of tiny inclusions add extra interest and bear witness to the primitive conditions in which this bowl was forged.    Inclusions are dust or grits in the molten metal mixture of copper and tin. They are usually found on the bottom of a bowl and manifest as tiny raised pimples beneath the surface.

Antique Lingam Singing Bowls are very rare, and small examples like this even more so.  A small double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
