This rare antique Lingam Singing Bowl has an extraordinary shape the like of which I have seen only seen once before in a similar but smaller Lingam. It’s a difficult shape to describe so in this instance I will let the pictures do the talking.
Suffice it to say that it has been beautifully forged, with a large pointed lingam surrounded by circles at its centre, and a deep navel underneath.
The upper part of the outside wall features multiple decorative bands, while the lower part is plain and smooth. There is a possibility that the inside floor was once inscribed, but I cannot say for certain. This unique Lingam bowl dates from the 17th or possibly the 18th century, and is in excellent and clean structural condition.
This bowl has a distinctive voice. The fundamental note is a middle D (290Hz) whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim. The rim note has a pronounced pulse and is especially nice. A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.
This is a bowl for the serious Lingam collector.
