Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: D4 (Sacral Chakra)
Weight 843 grams (1 lb 13 ¾ oz). Size 17 x 11 cm (6 ¾ x 4 ¼ inches)
This beautiful globular antique Lingam Singing Bowl has a perfect pitch D4 (294Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. It’s very responsive and easy to play.
This is only the second lingam with this bowl form that I have encountered in over 30 years of collecting. And its unique shape results in a sound quality unlike any other. I particularly like the way the sound appears to form inside the bowl, giving a strange sense of being able to transport it physically around a client or room…and once it gets going it becomes directional and escapes from its open mouth like a genie in a bottle!
It has been superbly crafted with fine sensually smooth even walls and a level lip. There is a perfect lingam at its centre, surrounded by circles, and a neat navel or yoni underneath. The outer rim has been decorated with several incised lines and a band of sun motifs (dots within circles) with downward-pointing sun triangles at intervals.
This wonderful antique bowl is in excellent structural condition with an attractive aged patina.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
