Rare Antique Himalayan Sacred Yoni-Lingam Menstrual Set

SOLD

Rare Antique Yoni Ceremonial Ritual Menstral Blood Vessel and for Pouring Holy Water

L13½ x W5½ x H4 inches (34 x 14 x 10 cm).  Weight 0.87 kilos (2 lb 14½ oz)

The Yoni Pourer is at the top and the Yoni-Lingam at the bottom.  Both items are extremely rare and highly collectable museum quality ceremonial vessels for pouring holy water.  They are believed to date from the 17th or 18th century and probably have their origins in the Indian Himalayas.  Their condition is exceptional, and they have a beautiful deep golden copper colour and the patina of antiquity.  They were sourced together in Nepal, and are to be sold as a pair.

Antique Yoni Ceremonial Ritual Menstrual Vessel and for Pouring Holy Water

This ritual vessel for pouring holy water has been beautifully forged from hand-beaten copper.  It has an elongated bulbous form with a flared and ridged spout at one end, and represents the female genitalia.  It is used in Saivite temples to lustrate (ritually purify) its male equivalent, the lingam (phallus) and emblem of Siva.

Antique Yoni/Shiva Lingam Ceremonial Menstrual Vessel and for Holy Water

This ancient tear-shaped object has been beautifully forged from hand-beaten copper.  It features a centrally placed pointed lingam set within the bowl, and has a matching navel underneath.   It sits neatly on the circular base of the navel…all else being raised above the surface.  It’s a truly sensual and beautiful form!  It is structurally sound and in an excellent state of preservation.  It has the patina, look and feel of great antiquity.

The Yoni (vulva) is the symbol of the Hindu Goddess Shakti, while the male counterpart is the God Shiva’s Lingam (phallus).   Their union represents the eternal process of creation and regeneration.  Normally holy water is poured from the Yoni over a Shiva Lingam during a Puja or prayer ceremony, but in this case the Yoni and Lingam are combined within the same vessel.
