This rare antique bowl is thought to be of a type that some Himalayan Shaman use in their work. It is undoubtedly an uncommon bowl form, and has a wide and shallow shape that would readily lend itself to the layering and mixing of medicinal preparations, or the presentation of a mandala.
There is a tiny circle at its centre surrounded by several larger concentric circles, and there is a pair of incised lines just below the inner rim. The downward sloping lip is finely grooved.
The fundamental note is an interesting middle middle octave E (325Hz) while the rim note is multi harmonic and will produce an E4 or a B5 (985Hz) with a wooden ringer. My feeling is that the sound of this bowl is secondary to its shamanic function as a sacred vessel.
The condition of this rare and unusual bowl is very good, being largely clean and free of blemishes. A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
