SOLD
Rare Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: Bb3 & E5 (Crown & Solar Plexus Chakras)
Weight: 784 grams (1 lb 12 oz). Size: 18 x 10 cm (7 ¼ x 4 inches)
This antique Lingam Singing Bowl has a very attractive and unusual bulbous shape; the first of its kind I have seen. There are multiple decorative lines between the rim and its shoulder, with two more bands encircling the lower wall at intervals. Again, this is a very unusual feature, especially on a Lingam bowl. It has a sheered lip, a curved wall, and a flat bottom. The lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, with a deep navel or yoni underneath.
Both the fundamental note and its harmonic are close to perfect pitch. The fundamental is a third octave Bb3 (230/32Hz) when struck with a padded mallet and played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave E5 (657Hz) when played with a wooden ringer. It feels very nice in the hand when playing, and there is a strange sense of the sound escaping from inside the bowl.
This rare antique Lingam singing bowl is structurally sound, clean, and free of stains and blemishes. It has a nice aged patina and the look and feel of antiquity.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
