Rare Antique Naga Singing & Healing bowl – B3 & Eb5

Antique Naga Singing Bowl.  Notes: B3 & Eb5 (Crown & Solar Plexus Chakras)

Weight 1.2 kilos (2 lb 10 ½ oz).  Size 17 x 9.5 cm (6 ¾ x 3 ¾ inches)

This lovely antique Naga or Pedestal Singing Bowl with its graceful and rare shallow form probably dates from the early 1800s and is one of the oldest I have come across in over 30 years of collecting. 

The fundamental note is a nice third octave B3 (240Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave Eb5 (614Hz) with a wooden ringer.  It’s a very responsive and easy to play bowl.

It has been been beautifully crafted and is quite a heavy for its size despite the fineness of its wall and lip and, unlike the later Naga bowls, its circular pedestal has been cast rather than welded to the bowl’s bottom.

This bowl is in excellent structural condition and has an attractive dark golden bronze colour. 

A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
