Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: A3 & Eb5 (Third Eye & Solar Plexus Chakras)
Weight 638 grams (1 lb 6 ½ oz). Size 18 x 10 cm (7 x 4 inches)
This unusual antique Lingam Singing Bowl combines the rare lingam form with that of the popular but uncommon Remuna shape to produce an interesting bowl with a uniquely beautiful sound. Both bowls types are renowned for their distinctive and exquisite voices, and this bowl is no exception.
The fundamental note is a really lovely pulsating third octave A3 (217Hz) with a long sustain when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave Eb5 (618Hz) with a wooden ringer.
This is a very attractive and well-crafted bowl, light for its size, with a fine curved wall and a sheered level lip. There is an excellent lingam at its centre surrounded by boldly incised circles, and a matching navel or yoni underneath. Tiny dots, now faint, form a decorative collar around the rim, and there are decorative bands at intervals around the outer wall.
The subtle hammer markings covering the surface of this bowl are particularly attractive, and it is sensually smooth and pleasing to hjold and play. The structural condition is excellent, clean and stain-free, and it has an attractive golden bronze colour.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
