Rare Antique Remuna Singing Bowl – Perfect Pitch C4 plus Inscription

This is a nice example of this uncommon and sought-after bowl form with a perfect concert pitch middle C fundamental (261Hz) when struck or played around the rim with a suede ringer. It also benefits from an inscription…always a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.

This is a nice quality bowl with a thick wall and grooved lip and, unusually, it has also been extensively decorated. I believe this to have been done in two stages and at different times. The original decoration still evident includes the dot-punched inscription and rising sun, a band of tiny sun motifs and a pattern around its belly. The later decoration includes a pattern of engraved flowers and foliage around the outer rim, and deeply incised bands. I believe these later additions were made mofre recently at a time when the earlier decorations were becoming faint.

This bowl is in excellent structural condition, basically clean but with a light stain on part of its outer wall.

An interesting and rare antique Remuna with an excellent C4 voice!
