Rare Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl. F Note (Heart Chakra)
Weight 2 lb 3 oz (996g). 17 x 9 ½ cm (approx. 7 x 3 ¾ inches)
This is a rare form of antique Tibetan Thadobati singing bowl that is reminiscent of the older Mani bowl shape with its pronounced inward-sloping sides. However, this bowl has less of a belly than the Mani form, and an interesting out-turned lip. This is an old bowl that has seen a lot of use over its lifetime. Three quarters of its outer surface was once decorated with numerous parallel engraved lines that are now fairly smooth and less pronounced, and the decorative circles inside the basin have all but vanished. However, this unusual singing bowl is still strong and structurally sound, and it has an attractive golden colour that is free of blemishes.
The fundamental note of this unique antique bowl is a mid octave F sharp when struck or played around the rim, but other overtones are also present. Its struck note is particularly pleasing. A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
Apart from the sound of a bowl its aesthetics, its physical characteristics and proportions have always been enormously important to us, and we took pleasure collecting unusual forms. This is one such bowl.
