Rare, Beautiful, Superior Quality 13” Jambati Singing Bowl – Low A2 & Pulsating Sustain
SOLD
Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes: A2, Bb2 & E4 (Third Eye, Crown & Solar Plexus Chakras)
Weight: 3.7 kilos (8 lb 2 oz). Size: 33 x 17 cm (13 x 6 ¾ inches)
This glorious antique Jambati Singing Bowl has a large diameter of 13 inches, weighs 3.7 kilos, and is one of the largest in my collection. Old Jambati bowls approaching anything like this size are extremely rare and sought after for their beautiful low resonant notes, loud voices and long sustains. The size and superior quality of this bowl suggests that it was commissioned by or for a temple and had a ceremonial purpose.
This large bowl has a rare and fabulous low pulsating second octave A2 fundamental (112Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the with a heavy suede ringer. The fundamental sits equidistant between A2 (112Hz) and Bb2 (114Hz) so it’s possible to bring either note to the fore, or flicker between the two. However, on balance it is the rare A2 that dominates. The rim note changes to a middle E4 (339Hz) harmonic if a lighter suede ringer is employed. All the notes are incredible beautiful, and the struck note has a long pulsating sustain. This heavy bowl is best placed on a cushion for playing, and will be supplied with a large Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion.
This late 18th Century Singing Bowl has a really lovely full and deep-bodied shape, with finely hammered walls, and a plain inward-sloping triangulated lip. There are circles at its centre and incised bands encircling the outer rim.
It is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free inside and out, and has a glorious golden bronze colour. One could not wish for a better antique singing bowl!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and 2 ringers are all included in the price.
