Rare Copper Red Antique Singing Bowl with Inscription – F4 (355Hz)

This rare gracefully curved antique singing bowl has an unusually high copper to tin ratio in the bronze alloy, resulting in an intense hot coppery red colour unlike any other bowl I have come across in 30 years of collecting.  There is a beautiful simplicity to its form, with decoration limited to bands encircling the outer rim.  It benefits from a small but well-defined inscription; a fair indication of the high esteem in which this bowl was held by a former keeper. 

The fundamental note is a middle F4/F#4 (355-361Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim.

The structural condition of bowl is very good, basically clean, with spots of copper oxidization, and a fabulous aged patina.

A Tibetan silk brocade cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
