Rare Globular Antique ‘Genie’ Singing Bowl – Self-Amplifying G4 – Inscription

This is a rare Antique Singing Bowl with a lovely globular shape and a grooved inward-facing lip.  There are circles at its centre and decorative bands around the outer rim. 

It benefits from a nice dot-punched inscription sandwiched between lotus buds on the outer wall.  Inscriptions reflect the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.  They always add interest and value to a bowl. 

This is a very responsive bowl and easy to play.  The fundamental note is a middle G4 (387Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer.  

The unique shape of this old bowl results in a sound quality unlike any other.  I particularly like the way the sound appears to form inside the bowl…and once it gets going it becomes directional and escapes from its open mouth like a genie in a bottle! 

 The structural condition of this bowl is excellent, and it is clean and free of stains.

A small padded striker and a ringer are included in the price.
