Rare Large Antique Mani Singing Bowl – A5 Concert Pitch

This is an unusually large and heavy antique Mani Singing Bowl with a superb fundamental…a powerful fifth octave A with a variable frequency (877-882Hz) that wavers either side of perfect concert pitch (880Hz). As with all Mani bowls the note is the same whether struck or played around the rim, but unlike some, this bowl is very responsive and easy to play.

In many ways this is the archetypal Mani bowl exhibiting all the characteristics of this bowl type…the flat bottom, walls that taper toward the rim, and a wide flat inward-facing grooved lip.  There are concentric circles at its centre and incised bands below the outer rim and around its bulbous belly.

This bowl is in exceptionally nice condition for its considerable age which could be anywhere between 200 and 400 years.  It is structurally sound and virtually free of stains and blemishes.  It has a fabulous colour and the patina of antiquity.  A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
