Antique Remuna Singing Bowl.  Note C3 – Root Chakra

Weight 654 grams (1 lb 7 oz).  Size 23 x 11.5 cm (9 x 4 ½ inches)

This lovely old Remuna has the finest walls I have come across in a hand beaten bowl.  Indeed, it is quite possibly the lightest for its size that I have encountered in 30 years of collecting…a 9-inch Jambati would typically weigh twice as much!  Its original finely forged walls have been further refined by years of ritual cleaning.

This responsive and lightweight bowl is a delight to hold and play for an extended period, and its slightly bulbous form, thin walls, and the unusual mound at its centre all contribute to its distinctive voice.  The fundamental note is a beautiful third octave C (131Hz) when struck or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to G#4 (413Hz) if a widen ringer is used.

An unusual and very rare feature of this antique bowl is the small mound at its centre, and matching depression underneath.  Some might describe it as a semi or button lingam.  Concentric circles, now faint, surround the mound at its centre.  It has a triangulated lip, and decorative bands below the outer rim.  This is an exceptionally large Remuna bowl with a diameter at least 2 inches wider than average.

This unique bowl is worn but structurally sound, and its thin walls are intact.   It is very attractive and basically clean, but with some light staining inside.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker, and a ringer are all included in the price.
