Rare Large Tibetan Lingam Singing Bowl – D4 Note

SOLD

Antique Tibetan Lingam Singing Bowl.   D4 (Sacral Chakra)
Weight 2 lb 6 ¾ oz. (1.10 kilos).   18 x 9.5 cm (approx. 7 ¼ x 3 ¾ inches)

This is a superb example of a large antique Lingam singing bowl with an excellent pulsating mid octave D fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  It has a long sustain and is very responsive and easy to play.

It is a very nicely proportioned Thadobati-shaped bowl that is believed to date from the 18th century. It has a smallish flat bottom and straight high-sided walls of a generous and even thickness.  It has an excellent grooved lip, a centrally placed lingam, and a neat navel on the underside.  The concentric circles at its centre have been largely worn away over time, but there are two decorative bands of punched dots and some incised lines below the outer rim, and a pair of lines around the middle of the bowl’s belly.

This rare Lingam Singing Bowl is in very good structural condition.  It is clean and virtually free of stains and blemishes, and also has a lovely golden bronze colour.  A top quality bowl!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded mallet, and a teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
