Rare Majestic 14 ½” 18th Century Jambati Temple Singing Bowl – Perfect Pitch E2

SOLD

Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Note E2 & C5 (Solar Plexus & Root Chakra)

Weight 3.83 kilos (8 lb 7 oz).  Size 36.5 x 16.5 cm (14 ½ x 6 ½ inches)

This massive and majestic antique Jambati Singing bowl is incredibly beautiful.  Dating from the 18th Century, possibly earlier, it has a huge diameter of 14 ½ inches, weighs 3.83 kilos, and is the largest antique Jambati Singing Bowl in my entire collection.  Antique Jambati bowls approaching anything like this size are extremely rare and sought after for their beautiful low resonant and powerful voices and long sustains.  This huge superior quality bowl was probably commissioned by or for a monastery or temple, where it would have served some important ceremonial purpose.

It has a fabulous perfect pitch second octave E2 fundamental (83.5Hz) with a pronounced beat when struck with a padded mallet or played around the with a suede ringer.    The fundamental E2 is sometimes accompanied by a subtle B3 (242Hz) harmonic.

The rim note changes to a nice fifth octave C5 harmonic (510-13Hz) with a wooden ringer.  The vibrant energy of this bowl will also produce the OM sound with a heavy suede ringer, and probably fountains too if played with a little water inside.

This heavy bowl is best placed on a cushion for playing, and will be supplied with a large Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion.

This massive bowl is actually relatively light for its size because its graceful and exceptionally fine hammered walls have been superbly crafted, and made even finer and smoother with centuries of handling and use.   It has a smooth triangulated lip , decorative bands around the outer wall, and circles at the centre.

It is in an excellent state of preservation, structurally sound, clean and stain-free, with some light copper oxidization inside the basin, and an attractive golden bronze colour.  The dark rectangular patch seen in some of the photos is a reflection of my sweater, and not on present the bowl.

This massive, ancient, and wonderful bowl is a unique treasure that would crown any collection!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker, and 2 ringers are all included in the price.
