Antique Mani Singing Bowl Set of 5. D5/E5/F#5/G#5/A5
Average Weight 1.22 kilos (2 lb 11 oz). Average Diameter 6.35 inches
This is a rare set of five 5th Octave Antique Mani Singing Bowls. Bowl sizes ranges from medium to large, as priority has been given to their sonic character.
The fundamental note has been determined by striking the outside of the bowl with a hard leather-wrapped ringer. The rim notes are virtually identical when a hard wooden ringer is employed. All the bowls produce the characteristic Mani sound with a pronounced beat.
D5 (597Hz) 1.18 kilos, 6 ¾ inches
E5 (650Hz) 1.24 kilos, 6 inches
F#5 (738Hz) 1.09 kilos, 6 ½ inches
G#5 (817Hz) 1.20 kilos, 6 ½ inches
A5 (898Hz) 1.39 kilos, 6 inches
All bowls are typical of this ancient bowl form…flat bottom, bulbous tapering wall, wide inward-facing lip, circles at the centre, and decorative banding below the outer rim and around the belly. These are genuine antiques and some decorative features have been worn away with the passage of time.
All bowls are in good structural condition, with the exception of the G#5 which has a thin sprung floor when pressed, although it still sings well. I am including it free of charge.
Antique Mani bowls are generally thought to be between 200 and 400 years old and are now very rare.
Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushions and ringers are included in the price.
