This is without doubt the shallowest antique lingam bowl I have come across in more than 25 years of collecting.  Its walls are exceptionally low for its diameter, the latter being quite considerable in its own right at 9¾ inches.  This gives rise to its unique gong-like sound when struck.  It also has something of a clock-like chime to it.  Very interesting!  The struck note is a near concert pitch E3, while the rim note is a pleasant mid octave Bb.

 

This bowl has strong thick walls and a large flat bottom with a deep navel.  There is an excellent lingam at its centre, surrounded and defined by an incised circle, with others at intervals across the floor.  The external wall is undecorated.

 

This extremely rare bowl is structurally sound.  I believe it to be an early bowl…and quite possibly one of a kind!
