SOLD
Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: F4 & Bb5 (Heart & Crown Chakras)
Weight 621 grams (1 lb 5 oz). Size 18 x 6.5 cm (7 x 2 ½ inches)
This is an interesting and rare Shaman’s Lingam Medicine and Singing Bowl dating from the early 1800s. It has the typical shallow profile of a medicine bowl but with a more bulbous form, and a rounded bottom, and an exceptionally rare lingam at the centre and matching navel or yoni underneath. It has a sheered lip and a pair of incised bands encircling the outer rim, below which is an unusual decorative band of diagonal lines.
There are decorative circles halfway across the inside centre of the bowl, dividing the floor into two parts. The inner part surrounding the lingam features a leaf or flower pattern composed of tiny circles, while the outer part contains a star pattern, again composed of circles.
The primary purpose of this bowl is believed to be the preparation of healing herbal medicines, nonetheless it also has some musical ability. The fundamental struck note is a middle F4 (352Hz) with a Bb5 (940Hz) harmonic when played around the rim.
This rare antique Lingam bowl is one-of-a-kind with its unusual artwork. It is structurally sound, clean and free of stains, and has an attractive aged patina.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
