Rare Shape Antique Singing Bowl – E4 Note

This is a rare form of antique Tibetan singing bowl that is reminiscent of the older Mani bowl shape with its pronounced inward-sloping sides.  However, this bowl has less of a belly than the Mani form, and an interesting flat grooved out-turned lip.

This is an old bowl that has seen a lot of use over its lifetime.  The upper half of its outer surface is decorated with numerous incised parallel lines that are now fairly smooth and worn in places, as are the decorative circles inside the basin.  However, this interesting bowl remains strong and structurally sound, and it has an attractive golden colour.

The fundamental note of this antique bowl is a mid octave E when struck or played around the rim.  It has a rather unusual and interesting struck fundamental note, and a unique pulsating rim note that is best achieved with a hard wooden ringer.
