Rare Small & Collectable – Inscribed Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – My Smallest!

SOLD

Antique Singing Bowl. Notes: C5 & F#6 (Root & Heart Chakras)

Weight: 360 grams (0 lb 12½ oz).  Size: 11.5 x 5.5 cm (4 ½ x 2 ¼ inches)

Small Antique Lingam Singing Bowls are incredibly rare and highly sought after by collectors, healers and practitioners.  With a diameter of just 4 ½ inches (11.5 cm) and weighing just 12 ½ ounces this is my smallest bowl, and will likely be snapped up quickly by a collector.  Its relatively high price reflects its rarity, age, and quality.

This nicely crafted 19th Century Singing Bowl has gently curved walls, a sheered lip, and a rounded bottom.  A band of tiny cuts decorate the outer rim.  The Lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of partially worn circles, and there is a naval or yoni underneath.

There is a nice dot-punched inscription engraved on the outer wall.  It reads Gopi, a Bengali name, meaning a milk maid and devotee of Krishna.  Very few bowls carry inscriptions, especially small ones.  They are a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.

It is a responsive bowl and easy to play.  The fundamental note is a nice fifth octave C5 (516Hz) when struck with a padded mallet, and 527Hz with a wooden one.  The rim note is a sixth octave F#6 (1456Hz) when played with a wooden ringer.  This small antique bowl easily fits in the palm of the hand for playing, and despite its light weight, doesn’t spin when playing.

It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free, with a nice golden bronze colour.

A very rare, attractive, and desirable small Antique Lingam Singing Bowl!

A ringer is included in the price.
