This antique Lingam is a really lovely little bowl…beautiful to look at, comfortable to hold, and a delight to play!   It’s quite thick and heavy for its size and has been beautifully forged, with attractive contrasting surfaces on the outer and inner wall. 

There is a neat nipple-like lingam surrounded by circles at its centre, and a perfectly symmetrical naval underneath.  It has a (faintly) grooved lip, and a decorative band of tiny cuts just below the outer rim, the latter being a common feature on 17^th and 18^th century Thadobati and Lingam bowls of similar shape.   This bowl is in excellent condition and has the most beautiful rich antique gold colour.

The fundamental note is a nice forth octave A (433Hz) whether struck with a mallet or played around the rim with a ringer.   A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
