Small Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. F#4 (Heart Chakra)
Weight 1 lb 1¼ oz. (486g). Size 14 x 6.5 cm (approx. 5½ x 2½ inches)
This small nice quality antique Lingam Singing Bowl dates from around 1800. It has the high-sided Thadobati form with a small flat bottom, a (faintly) grooved lip, and two decorative bands of dots around the outer rim that are fairly typical of the period. There is a pretty lingam surrounded by concentric circles at its centre, and a neat navel underneath. The bowl is clean and structurally sound.
The fundamental struck note is a mid octave F# (371Hz) that is very close to perfect concert pitch. The note is the same whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer, but if a wooden one is used the rim note changes to a high sixth octave C#. A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
