Rare Thadobati Singing Bowl

Rare Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl
.  G Note (Throat Chakra)

Weight 2 lb 18 oz (990g).   17 x 9 cm (approx. 6 ¾ x 3 ½ inches)

This is a rare form of antique Thadobati singing bowl that is reminiscent of the older Mani bowl shape with its pronounced inward-sloping sides.  However, unlike the curved Mani form this bowl has very straight sides and, unusually for a Thadobati bowl, an out-turned lip.  A particularly nice feature of this bowl is its abundance of decoration to the external wall, two thirds of which is covered with parallel engraved lines. Two more can be seen just inside the rim, while the inside floor is decorated with six concentric circles radiating from its centre.  The triangulated lip is also nicely grooved.

This is quite a heavy bowl for its size, and very well made.  The external decoration contrasts nicely with the smooth surface low down the wall, and on the underside.   It has a nice golden colour and is in very good condition.

The fundamental note of this unique antique bowl is particularly lovely…a mid octave G when struck or played around the rim. A double-ended teak and suede ringer/striker is included in the price.

Apart from the sound of a bowl its aesthetics, its physical characteristics and proportions have always been enormously important to us, and we took pleasure collecting unusual forms.  This is one such bowl.
