Rare Thadobati Singing Bowl – What more could one ask for?
SOLD
18th – 19th Century Tibetan Thadobati Singing & Fountain Bowl. C Note (Root Chakra)
Weight 3 lb 2 ¾ oz (1.44 kilos). 19 ½ x 10 ½ cm (approx. 7 ½ x 4 ¼ inches)
It will be hard to part with this singing bowl…it’s certainly one of the best in our collection! A really large old Thadobati with bags of character…thick almost straight high-sided walls, a grooved lip, a circle of dots below the rim, and definitely the look and feel of age and a lifetime’s service. Some of its individuality can be seen and physically felt in the slightly lumpy external surface…where its maker struggled to give such a thick bowl its form. This is a heavy old bowl, a little bruised here and there, but clean and sound in every respect that matters.
The fundamental note is an excellent middle C sharp, and the rim note is the same when played with a suede ringer, although other overtones are noticeable if a wooden ringer is used. Moreover, this ancient singing bowl, with a little water inside, has talking abilities (at some extremely high frequencies) and is capable of producing very good fountains. What more could one ask of a singing bowl?
A brocade bowl cushion and the large teak and suede ringer (pictured) are included in the price.
