Rare 17th – 18th Century Antique Lingam Singing Bowl.  C Note (Root Chakra)
Weight 1 lb 9 ¾ oz (721g).   15 x 7 cm (approx. 6 x 2 ¾ inches)

 

This is a good quality medium size antique Tibetan Lingam Singing Bowl with an excellent 5th octave fundamental C sharp note whether struck or played around the rim with a ringer.  With a little water inside it also has some talking ability.

 

This is a straight-sided and nicely proportioned bowl with strong walls, a good grooved lip, and a large pronounced central lingam that is surrounded by several well-worn decorative circles.  This rather handsome bowl has clearly been played a lot as the fine dot pattern just below the outer rim has been worn smooth around the ringing area.  This antique bowl shows some signs of wear but is generally in very good condition for its considerable age. It’s an attractive looking bowl with a very sweet voice and a particularly lovely antique golden colour.  A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
