Antique Tibetan Lingam Singing Bowl.   F4 (Heart Chakra)
Weight 1 lb 10 ¼ oz. (0.75 kilos).   17 x 8.5 cm (approx. 6 ¾ x 3 ¼ inches)

This is a characterful medium size antique Lingam singing bowl with a good mid octave F fundamental (358Hz), and some interesting decorative features that one associates with older bowls dating from the 18th century.

It is a very nicely proportioned bowl that feels comfortable in the hand; being neither too small nor too large to hold and play without tiring.  It has a high-sided wall that gently curves in towards the rim, and a very nice centrally placed lingam, and a neat navel on the underside.  It has a thick folded and grooved lip, and a particularly attractive decorative feature encircling the outer wall below the rim.  This includes a band of mala beads or sun motifs (punched dots within circles) that have been worn smooth with the passage of time so that in most instances only the deeper dots remain evident.  A single incised line encircles the bowl just above its midpoint.  There is also a faint inscription.

This Lingam bowl is responsive and easy to play.  The struck and played notes are the same…a clean pulsating middle F.

The bowl is believed to date from the 19th century (possibly earlier) and is in very good condition for its age.  It has a golden bronze colour inside and out and is free of stains and blemishes.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded mallet, and a teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
