This is a large and heavy antique Tibetan Lingam Singing Bowl in a good state of preservation.  The walls are thick and even, and on the outside smooth to the touch until about halfway down, and underneath, where the forging marks are more obvious.  I cannot be certain whether the interior of this handsome old bowl has simply been well maintained over the years, or professionally restored and polished.  The inside of the basin has an attractive and wonderfully rich and bright golden colour, with a well-defined lingam surrounded by boldly incised concentric circles.  It has the wide triangulated and grooved lip that is typical of this Lingam form.

 

This bowl has a characteristically Lingam sound and a very nice voice…a good middle octave F sharp that’s close to concert pitch whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer.
