This small 19th century Lingam Singing Bowl has two excellent and uncommon voices…middle Eb (320Hz) when struck and a high sixth octave A (1737Hz) when played around the rim with a wooden ringer.
This little bowl has lots of character and some unusual features including a gently mounded lingam with a tiny circle at its centre, and several deeply incised lines encircling the inner rim which I believe act as markers…fill the bowl with water up to the line and rock gently while it’s singing to alter the pitch. The outer wall features a decorative band that forms a collar below the rim, below which a series of seemingly random gashes of a ritual nature encircle the bowl. There are also a few high up on the inside. It has a neat navel underneath too.
This fascinating little singing bowl is in excellent structural condition and essentially clean but with some grime and light staining here and there. I love it!
The price includes a Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer.
