Small Antique Mani Singing Bowl

SOLD

Rare 16th – 18th Century Mani Singing Bowl.  B Note (Crown Chakra)
Weight 1 lb 0 ½ oz (466g).   12 x 6 cm (approx. 4 ½ x 2 ½ inches)

This is a very small antique Mani or Charma singing bowl.  It has all the physical and sonic attributes of larger Mani bowls but in miniature.  It is well made, with smooth inner and outer walls, a wide inward-facing lip, and typical decorative engraved bands just below the outer rim, the middle of the bowl, and concentric circles on the inside floor.  This Mani bowl has seen a lot of use as much of its decorative banding is now smooth.  However, it’s in good structural condition for its age (200 – 400 years) and has the look and feel of antiquity.

The bowl sings a high fifth octave B flat whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a wooden ringer.   The rim note is particularly powerful for such a small bowl.   A small double-ended teak and suede striker/ringer is included in the price.
