This is a small antique Manipuri Singing Bowl dating from the early 19^th century.  It is particularly nicely decorated for such a small bowl.  It has a circle of suns (punched dots surrounded by circles) in the centre of the basin, and another set within a pair of lines encircling the outer rim.  The sun motif is continued along the edge of the lip although all that remains are the centre dots, the outer circles having been worn away through use over the passage of time.     

Another interesting feature is the band of ritual gashes below the rim.  There are also some incised lines encircling the inner rim.  This pretty bowl is structurally sound and clean on the outside but with some light staining inside. 

This is a very responsive bowl and easy to play.  The fundamental note is a nice middle C# (278Hz) and the rim note a sixth octave G (1534Hz).  A ringer is included in the price.
