An unusual and exceptionally pretty antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with two beautiful pulsating voices…a concert pitch G4 (391 Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer, and a sixth octave C# (1128 Hz) when a wooden one is used.  Sometimes both notes sing together. 

This little bowl has been superbly crafted.  It has an exceptionally pretty rounded base that might have caused it to rotate when played around the rim, but its generous weight holds it rock steady, and it is a delight to play.   The wall rises gracefully from its tiny bottom, and gently flares towards the rim.   It has a fabulous wide and boldly grooved lip, and a decorative pair of incised lines high up on the wall inside and out.  The lightly mottled interior is particularly lovely.  Underneath there is a small circular impression at its centre.
