Antique Lingam Singing Bowl.   A4 (427/430Hz) Third Eye Chakra

Weight 2 lb 10½ oz. (1.21 kilos).   Size 19 x 10 cm (approx. 7½ x 4 inches)

This is a rare and beautiful high-wall antique Lingam Singing Bowl of the finest quality.  It is finely forged, heavy for its size, and the wall and lip are thicker than usual for this type of bowl.

There is an excellent lingam at its centre, surrounded and defined by a series of concentric circles, and a large symmetrical navel underneath.  It has a grooved lip, and a pair of boldly incised decorative lines encircles the outer wall about a third of the way down.

The Lingam itself is very unusual in that it features a rare ‘eye’ (circles incised upon the body and point of the lingam and not just on the floor of the bowl).   Fewer than 1 in 50 antique lingam bowls possess this feature.

While I was recording the audio clips my attention was drawn to a group of tiny dots that I had not previously noticed halfway down the bowl’s inside wall, and on close inspection they turned out to be a pin-prick inscription.  I then carefully examined the interior of the bowl in daylight and to my utter amazement discovered 9 or 10 more small pin-prick inscriptions scattered vertically and horizontally around the inner surface of the bowl…something I have not seen before on any bowl.  They would have been extremely difficult to create, and one wonders why they were deliberately made so tiny.  Clearly this is a very special Lingam bowl!

This bowl is a delight to play.  The fundamental note is a superb middle A (427/430Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer, both of which are included in the price.

This bowl is in excellent structural condition, and is clean and blemish free.  It has a lovely antique gold bronze colour.
