This is a large and beautiful fine-walled antique Jambati singing bowl. It has a superb third octave C (132Hz) fundamental (struck note) that is fairly close to concert pitch when played around the rim with a suede ringer. This is an older bowl with exceptionally fine (thin) walls that contribute much to its wonderful sonic quality, as well as making it very light for its size, and therefore comfortable to hold and play for an extended period. This bowl has some fountain ability, and also benefits from a small but excellent engraved inscription below the rim on the outer wall.
This bowl has seen a lot of use over the years and the inside, although smooth, clean, and golden, shows evidence of scrubbing and cleaning that has partially worn away some of the concentric circles at its centre.
This contrasts with the outer surface, which retains the natural patina of old age. However, I wish to emphasize the fact that this remains a visually beautiful bowl in good structural condition for its considerable age.
Its shape is particularly lovely with its relatively low profile and wide inward-facing grooved lip. It also features attractive and well-defined banding that forms a decorative collar below the rim.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
One of the nicest singing bowls in our collection!
