Superb Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl – B3 & F5

Antique Manipuri Singing Bowls have become increasingly rare in recent years, and this is a particularly fine example.  It is thicker and heavier than usual, with an excellent multi-grooved lip, circles at the centre, and multiple decorative lines encircling the outer rim.   The mottled or leopard-spot hammer marks on the outer wall are especially attractive.

The fundamental note is a nice third octave B3 (243Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  However, the rim is slow to build with a suede ringer, and it is easier and best played with a wooden ringer when the note changes to a powerful fifth octave F5 (694Hz) that is close to perfect pitch.

This antique Manipuri is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free, with a dark antique bronze colour.  A ringer is included in the price.
