Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes: E2 & Bb3 (Solar Plexus & Crown)
Weight 4 lb 10 oz. (2.10 kilos). Size 28 x 12 cm (11 x 4 ¾ inches)
This superb large antique Jambati Singing Bowl has an excellent and distinctive voice…a low second octave E fundamental (84Hz) that is close to concert pitch when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note will readily progress from E2 to Bb3 (239Hz) if desired.
This 19thcentury bowl has a sheered lip and relatively thin walls that create sufficient vibrant energy to produce the OM sound, and also fountains if played with a little water inside. Its decorative features have been worn away with the passage of time, but it benefits from an inscription around the outer rim; a sure sign of the high esteem in which a former keeper held this bowl.
It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free, and has an attractive bright golden bronze colour.
A padded striker and a suede ringer are included in the price.
