Superb Large Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl – Incredible Eb3 & A4 Voices

This large 19th century Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl, with its two wonderful voices, is among the very best I have come across in 30 years of collecting! 

This bowl is incredibly responsive and sings instantly.  The fundamental note is a third octave Eb (156/7Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a middle A (453Hz) if a wooden ringer is employed.  Both notes are wonderful…pulsating and powerful.

This bowl is beautifully crafted and well proportioned, with a gracefully curved high-sided wall and a flat bottom.  It is unusually large and heavy for this bowl type.  There are faint circles at its centre, and a decorative dotted border around the outer rim, below which can be found, at intervals, the ritual gashes associated with some bowls of this period.  

This bowl is in excellent structural condition and is clean and stain-free.  It has a lovely golden bronze colour and fabulous surface patina acquired from long use.  This bowl has the look and feel of antiquity!

I doubt you will find a better example of this antique bowl form.  It would grace any collection.  Buy it if you can!
