Weight 2 lb 15 ¾ oz. (1.35 kilos). Size 30 x 14 cm (12 x 5 ½ inches)
This is a perfect example of the classical Jambati bowl form in a much sought-after size, as medium-size Jambati bowls of this weight sit comfortably on the palm of the hand and can be played for an extended period without tiring.
Furthermore this is an exceptionally fine specimen that has been expertly forged. It has finely hammered even walls, a level sheered lip, circles at its centre, and a single decorative band encircling the outer rim.
The fundamental note is a low and very rare second octave A (107Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer, and it has a huge sustain! Other harmonics include E4 and Eb4. The low vibrant A2 frequency of this antique bowl will produce fountains if played with a little water inside.
This superb bowl is structurally sound, clean and blemish free, with an attractive golden bronze colour. It would make a perfect gift for someone special or a fabulous first bowl.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a small padded striker, and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
Listen: (2 struck notes and a played note, followed by another struck note).
