Superb Rare Small G4 Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – Inscribed “From the Sacred Temple”
SOLD
Antique Singing Bowl. Notes: G4 & C#6 (Throat & Root Chakras)
Weight: 484 grams (1 lb 1 oz). Size: 13 x 6 cm (5 ¼ x 2 ¼ inches)
This is a fine example of a small Lingam Singing Bowl from the 19th century. Its wall is a little thicker and heavier than usual and it has a sheered lip with with a single band of tiny decorative cuts encircling the outer rim. There is a neat Lingam surrounded by circles at it centre, and a matching navel or yoni underneath.
This antique bowl benefits from an interesting and unusually well defined inscription in Begali, ‘Muthain miya nijan miya’, a Muslim name. Miya means ‘From the Sacred Temple’. Very few singing bowls carry inscriptions, and they are especially rare on small bowls such as this. Inscriptions are a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.
The fundamental note is a middle octave G4 (399Hz) when struck with a padded and wooden mallet (402Hz), or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a high sixth octave C#6 (1137Hz) with a wooden ringer. It is very responsive and easy to play.
It is in excellent structural condition, with an aged patina and a golden bronze colour.
A very attractive small Lingam with a super voice!
A small ringer is included in the price.
