Thadobati Singing Bowl – Concert Pitch, Thick & Heavy!

SOLD

18th Century Heavy Antique Tibetan Thadobati Singing Bowl.  F Note (Heart Chakra)
Weight 3 lb 14 ¾ oz (1.78 kilos).   20 x 9 ½ cm (approx. 8 x 3 ¾ inches)

This antique singing bowl is just about the best one can hope for in a Thadobati.  It has a wonderful shape, a beautiful colour, and a stunning voice…a virtually concert pitch mid octave F with a sustain that goes on and on.  The fundamental note is the same whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede-wrapped ringer, but a hard wooden ringer produces a nice fifth octave B note.

At nearly 4 pounds (1.78 kilos) this bowl is a real heavyweight.  It has plain extra-thick walls and a wide slightly triangulated and inward-facing lip that was once grooved, and a few faint decorative concentric circles on the inside floor.  This is an ancient bowl (circa 18th century, perhaps earlier) with a lot of character and some signs of wear, but it’s in good clean condition for its age and will last a few lifetimes yet.  It has the look and feel of considerable antiquity, and is an exceptional singing bowl by any standard.  One for the collector perhaps!  A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
