This is an extraordinary and rare carved stone shaman Phurba depicting a seated praying figure of a deity or, quite possibly, a representation of the shaman himself. It is the first of its kind that I have come across.

 

 

The figure sits upon a roped and quilted throne, below which is a three-sided blade engraved with entwined Nagas, the Sun and Moon, and the ritual Bhumpa vessel associated with Buddhist spiritual practices.

 

The age of this rare one-of-a-kind stone Phurba is unknown, but it is in excellent condition and would make an interesting addition to any collection of ritual power objects.
