Unusual Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl – Rare Voice & Shape
SOLD
Rare Thadobati Singing Bowl. A & E Notes (Third Eye & Solar Plexus Chakras)
Weight 3 lb 4 ½ oz (1.49 kilos). 22 ½ x 8 cm (approx. 8 ¾ x 3 ¼ inches)
This is an extraordinary antique Thadobati singing bowl with some interesting characteristics…notably its very rare and extremely low and wide dish-like form, and its unusual combination of notes. The fundamental struck note is a superb and rhythmically pulsating low third octave A. It readily sings the same note (sometimes with a growl) when played around the rim with a suede ringer, but will switch to a very nice fifth octave E flat with a wooden one. This is sometimes accompanied by the low A note. This bowl has a particularly nice struck note but is actually very musically versatile.
At nearly 1.5 kilos this is a heavy bowl, with quite thick walls and a flat even lip. Decoration is limited to a pair of incised lines below the outer rim. The bowl is in excellent condition and virtually free of blemishes. It has a very nice feel to it…and a lovely silvery antique gold colour. A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
This bowl has bags of character and a great voice. It will particularly appeal to collectors looking for something different.
